Super Food & Drinks with or without the “Bowl”

I’ve been traveling within Australia for the last month and the Super Bowl slipped under my radar until today.  As I passed through the Crown Plaza Adelaide for the final time, I realized that (even) Australians were getting ready for the Super Bowl.  So, better late than never, I’ve gone through my inbox for some super cocktails and snacks you can enjoy today, or anytime.
Whatever the game you are watching – or playing – Dawn Sandomeno and Elizabeth Mascali, co-owners of Party Blueprints, have written Plan to Party to help make your get together a little fun and a lot more unique.  They’ve shared some ideas with me, starting with Duca del Frassino, one of the new wines in a box that are nothing like what you were pouring out of a box last century.  For $19.99, you get the equivalent of four bottles of the first Italian wine in a box and it will stay fresh for five weeks after opening.

While enjoying your wine, Sandomeno and Mascali suggest these simple to make treats…

Flatbread Pizzas-Easy to make and serve- brush with oil and add sliced mushrooms, garlic, basil, mozzarella cheese, and bake.  Cut into 4 inch long slices.

Greek Salad Skewers-Alternate feta cheese cubes with cucumbers, tomatoes, and olives. Drizzle olive oil over skewers, sprinkle with coarse salt and pepper to taste, and serve.

Reposado Wings-Give this game day favorite a twist by combining rosemary, lime juice, salt, pepper, tequila and cilantro.  Marinate wings overnight and bake while you’re getting dressed for the party.

If you can’t imagine your sports party without beer and pretzels, Truffle Truffle has some combo treats for any gameday.   All of this companies snacks are made to order says by Chef/owner Nicole Greene, including  Pretzel  Brittle, crunchy brittle infused with American chocolate stout, covered in milk chocolate and rolled in salty pretzels; Beer & Pretzel Caramels, caramel infused with chocolate stout enrobed in milk chocolate and tossed in crushed, salty pretzels; Beer & Pretzel Brittle Bits, crumbled bits to nibble on, or put on ice cream or mixed with popcorn; and Beer & Pretzel Marshmallows, thick and fluffy homemade marshmallows dipped in milk chocolate and topped with beer and pretzel brittle bits.

For those who want something that packs a bit more “punch,” John Kinder of Deaths Door Spirits offers this recipe:

Punch of Golden Slumbers
33 oz chamomile tea
33 oz sparkling water
8oz fresh lemon juice
4 oz pineapple syrup
1 oz yellow Chartreuse
